Job Opportunity: RRT (Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics) - Travel/Contract

Location: Greenville, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (3 shifts of 12 hours each per week)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Description

  • Provide respiratory therapy support in both Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU).
  • Float between CVICU and PICU units as needed.
  • Manage ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) devices during bedside cannulation and cannula repositioning.
  • Patient population includes post-cardiac surgery, cardiogenic shock, traumatic injury, ARDS/respiratory failure, and other critical acute illnesses requiring ECMO support.
  • Work alongside ICU RNs and RTs, specifically responsible for ECMO device management following provider orders.
  • Use specialized equipment including Cardiohelp and Centrimag ECMO consoles, Cardio Quip heater-cooler unit, and point-of-care glucometer.
  • Must have experience with both pediatric and adult patients.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 1 year of recent Respiratory Therapist experience
  • Experience working with both Pediatric and Adult patients
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC approved
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC approved
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA or ARC approved

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License required immediately upon signing for computer access and must be carried on duty.
  • Background check covering 7 years within 12 months of start date, including alias and multi-state/county searches.
  • E-Verify or attestation required.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter.
  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands.
  • Drug screening within 1 year, updated annually (5-panel minimum).
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or Tspot) within 90 days of start.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within last 10 years if working in high-risk areas.
    • Flu vaccine or approved exemption required by specified deadlines.
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity documentation (positive titer or 2 vaccines).
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination.
  • Respirator fit test to be completed onsite during orientation.
  • Badge photo required prior to start (passport style, plain background, no obstructions).

Orientation and Training

  • Completion of online Cornerstone modules within 72 hours of assignment.
  • Pass/fail testing (medication and arrhythmia exams) required prior to start with two attempts allowed.
  • Annual competencies and core training (Parts I, II, III) including universal precautions, cultural diversity, pain management, OSHA blood-borne pathogens, and TJC National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Medication and pharmacology competency exams required annually.
  • Floating policy acknowledgment required.

Additional Notes

  • ECMO specialist experience is critical due to patient acuity and device management responsibilities.
  • Must be comfortable managing critically ill pediatric and adult patients requiring advanced respiratory support.
  • This is a travel/contract position with a 13-week duration.
  • Weekend coverage every other weekend, subject to change based on unit needs.

This position is ideal for experienced respiratory therapists with ECMO expertise seeking a challenging ICU travel assignment in a high-acuity environment.
