Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Must independently scrub cardiac surgery and circulate in the CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room).
- Work schedule: 40 hours per week, consisting of two 12-hour shifts and two 8-hour shifts per week.
- Shift times: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM or 10:45 AM – 7:15 PM.
- Average nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2.
- Weekend requirement: Two 24-hour on-call shifts per schedule.
- On-call requirement: Two calls per Monday-Friday week (either 7 PM–11 PM or 7 PM–7 AM) with one day per week available to stay late.
- Floating within scope of practice to meet facility needs is required.
- Pending license accepted, but an active license must be obtained prior to the start date.
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval.
- Guaranteed hours.
- First-time travel nurses are accepted.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Connecticut.
- Minimum 2 years of CVOR experience, with CVOR experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid photo ID matching legal name for identity verification on first day.
- 7-year criminal background check completed within 12 months prior to start, including:
- SSN Trace
- Counties Lived/Worked
- Statewide and National criminal checks
- National Sex Offender Registry
- Federal and extended checks as applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
- Foreign equivalency education evaluation and diploma required for internationally educated candidates.
- Verification of highest level of education required; official transcripts may be requested.
- Employment application with 7-year work history and no gaps greater than 90 days.
- Work history verification for the last 7 years (attestations not accepted).
- One supervisor reference within the past year required for Cardio Thoracic ICU/CTICU assignments (charge nurse references not accepted).
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months prior to start.
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure required for certain tech and OR roles (may apply).
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually; must be clean-shaven for fit testing.
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation as per facility standards.
- Annual TB questionnaire.
- Required vaccinations or proof of immunity:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) – positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if titers low.
- Varicella – positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history; boosters if low titer.
- Hepatitis B – positive titer, proof of 3-dose vaccine series, or declination within 1 year.
- Tdap vaccination within 10 years highly preferred for certain specialties (not required).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (September 1 – March 31).
- COVID vaccination series preferred but not required.
Training & Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 12 months prior to start (minimum 85% passing score).
- Color blind testing required for all candidates on or after 8/2/2024 (minimum 80% passing score).
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for RNs in telemetry, ICU, ER, and related units (not required for CVOR).
- Facility-specific mandatory training modules and attestations including but not limited to:
- Language Services Training
- CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry)
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
- Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module (except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU)
- Stroke Education (except Pediatric specialties and NICU)
- CLABSI Prevention Training
- Preventing Pressure Injury Training
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
- Pyxis ES MedStation Training
- Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
- Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness
- AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health, Home Health)
- New Employee Orientation Module
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RNs except Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training (updated May 2024)
- Fire Safety Module (effective May 2026)
- EPIC testing or training (optional but highly encouraged for those with EPIC experience)
- ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
- eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)

- Facility type: Short Term Acute Care, Level I Trauma Center.
- Total staffed beds: 1567.
- Charting system: Epic.
- Scrub color provided.
- Parking cost: $125/month.

- Must be able to float within scope of practice to meet facility needs.
- Block scheduling is not accommodated.
