Registered Nurse - Long Term Care (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seward, Alaska
Contract Length: 26 weeks (traveler's choice between 13 or 26 weeks)
Shift Options:
- 4x12 hour shifts (variable)
- 3x12 hour shifts (variable)
- Shifts are either days or nights; no regular rotation between day and night shifts (occasional exceptions for urgent needs)
Job Details
- Patient Ratio: 1:20
- Guaranteed Hours: 60 hours per 2 weeks (traveler may be called off for one 12-hour shift per 2 weeks)
- Floating: May be required to float within scope to meet facility needs
- On-call: Not required
- Block scheduling: Not accommodated
- Local candidates not accepted (must live at least 50 miles from facility)
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: Max 2 weeks RTO for 26-week contract; must be willing to work at least 2 of the 3 major winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
- First-time travelers not accepted
- Pending licenses not accepted
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Alaska
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of Long Term Care nursing experience within the last year
- One completed travel assignment
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation

Vehicle Provided
- Facility arranges a vehicle for traveler use during assignment
- Vehicle available 72 hours before contract start and must be returned within 24 hours after contract end
- Only traveler authorized to operate vehicle
- Traveler must provide valid driver’s license and proof of insurance (including rental car coverage)
- Vehicle use limited to “around town” within a 30-mile radius; no off-road or outside area use
- Vehicle must be returned clean and with a full tank of gas
- Tire chains available at traveler’s additional cost
- Vehicle must be turned in during any time off and reissued upon return
Health and Background Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating fitness to work
- Immunizations and screenings required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years; declination accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer; declination accepted
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination (Alaska placements require positive titer and vaccine series)
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer; declination accepted
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted)
- COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations not required but unvaccinated must follow masking policies
- Drug screen: 9-panel within 12 months (instant acceptable)
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually for travel candidates
- Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including SSN trace, sex offender registry, education verification, and others as applicable
- Minimum of 2 professional references covering at least 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years of employment with explanations for gaps or overlaps
Training and Competency Requirements
- Annual completion of regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp)
- Medication and competency exams as applicable to LTC nursing specialty
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Facility-specific orientation and training, including Alaska Food Worker Certification
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be willing to float to other nearby facilities if needed
- No block scheduling accommodations
- No acceptance of candidates with pending licenses or first-time travelers
- RTO requests must be submitted with application and cannot be approved after offer or contract signing
This position offers a travel nursing opportunity in a long-term care setting in Alaska with flexible shift options and vehicle provided for local transportation. Prior travel experience and Alaska RN licensure are mandatory.
