Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Hays, Kansas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 48

Job Description

• Work primarily with surgical patients on a surgical unit.
• Floating to other units as needed.
• Schedule includes weekdays and some weekends.
• Electronic Medical Record system used: Meditech.
• Must be willing to work within a 60-mile radius of the facility.
• Facility may consider 36 or 48 hour contracts (details to be discussed during interview).

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kansas.
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Orientation & Work Environment

• Orientation starts at 8:20 AM in a designated conference room on campus.
• Dress code for orientation: business casual (no blue jeans, flip flops, spaghetti straps, or cropped tops). Scrubs may be worn if required for the position.
• Lactation resources available upon request.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID must be carried during work hours.
• Social Security Number verification required.
• Proof of E-Verify or attestation required.
• Background check: 7-year criminal history, education verification, sex offender registry, and other standard checks must be current and updated annually.
• Drug testing: Negative 13-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted).
• Physical exam: Physician statement within the last 12 months required.
• Immunizations/Vaccinations:

  • Current Tdap vaccine within the last 10 years.
  • MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Influenza, and other standard vaccinations or documented immunity required. Declinations require facility-specific forms.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31).
• TB testing: Quantiferon Gold test within 1 year of start, updated annually; if positive, negative chest x-ray within 2 years and annual TB questionnaire required.
• State license primary source verification and NURSYS verification required.
• Pass/fail competency testing (including EKG and medication) during orientation.
• References: Two professional references within 2 years required for travel positions.

• Orientation includes completion of safety and competency exams.
• Facility-specific respirator clearance required prior to start.
• Facility requires acknowledgment of HIPAA and safety manuals.
