Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse - Northfield, MN (Travel/Contract)
Job Summary
Provide direct professional nursing care for maternal and newborn patients using nursing knowledge and critical thinking. Deliver age-specific and developmentally appropriate care for neonate, adolescent, and adult patients. Responsibilities include patient assessment, care planning, interventions, evaluation, and patient/family education within established policies and standards.
Work Schedule
- Shifts: Day (3x12 hours, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM) or Night (3x12 hours, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Hours per week: 36
- Contract length: 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Minnesota
- Minimum of 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS certification
- Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current PALS certification issued by American Heart Association
- Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- Basic Electronic Fetal Monitoring certification
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 to 5 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience
- STABLE certification preferred
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patient condition through observation, examination, lab findings, and interviews
- Develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans using professional judgment and critical thinking
- Supervise and delegate to support personnel as needed
- Perform nursing interventions including medication administration, IV fluids, blood products, IV venipuncture, restraint application, and sterile dressings
- Document patient responses and modify care plans accordingly
- Provide patient and family education based on diagnosis and treatment plans
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Emergency contact form required prior to start
- Background checks including SS trace, county searches (7 years), nationwide, sex offender, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and Minnesota DHS NetStudy fingerprint clearance (must be completed before start)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with specific protocols for past positives)
- Drug screening (9 panel) within 1 year of start
- Required immunizations and titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination or documented declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
- COVID-19 vaccination or approved religious/medical exemption
- Annual skills checklist and medication/pharmacology competency exam
Additional Health and Safety Requirements
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific 3M mask models required)
- Facility-specific photo for badge prior to start
- Facility-specific religious exemption form for COVID-19 or influenza vaccine if applicable
References
- 2 professional references required for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles
- 1 professional reference required for per diem non-acute care roles

- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
- Candidates must complete Minnesota DHS NetStudy fingerprint questionnaire immediately after signing contract and complete fingerprinting within 2 weeks.
