Radiation Therapist Travel/Contract Job – North Carolina

Job Overview

  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift Options:
    • 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, occasionally 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM)
    • 4 days a week, 10-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM or 8:00 AM – 6:30 PM with 30-minute lunch)
  • Hours per week: 40
  • Patient Ratio: 1:5
  • Call Requirement: None
  • Weekend Requirement: None
  • Float Requirement: Yes, floating between two clinical sites approximately 10 to 30 minutes apart is required.

Job Details

  • No orientation or dimensions training required; the traveler will start directly in the clinic.
  • The traveler will float between two radiation oncology clinics with Varian linear accelerators and CT simulators.
  • The traveler will not be expected to cut blocks, perform CT simulations alone, or calculate radiation doses.
  • Always paired with at least one other therapist; therapists do not work alone.
  • Contract staff may be assigned to Storm or Hurricane Teams and may be required to report during catastrophic events or disasters.
  • Scheduling is manager-driven based on clinic needs.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Radiation Therapist license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Radiation Therapist experience
  • Radiation Therapist experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) – Radiation Therapy certification (ARRT T)

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) – Radiation Therapy certification

Licensing

  • Must hold a valid Radiation Therapist license appropriate for North Carolina.

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

  • Background checks including local, federal, national criminal databases, sex offender search, and education verification.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days and annual updates required.
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (not required for non-clinical).
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol.
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start.
  • Immunizations or titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination form)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season.
  • Completion of facility-specific education modules including medication safety, confidentiality agreement, tobacco-free campus acknowledgment, and annual compliance training.
  • Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist if applicable.
  • Radiation badge required for Radiation Therapists.
  • Photo for badge must meet facility specifications (passport style, white background, business attire).

Additional Notes

  • Scrubs are not provided; royal blue scrubs are standard.
  • References: 2 professional references within 3 years required for travel and acute care allied positions.
  • Performance evaluations required if worked with the agency over one year.
  • Employment application must be uploaded prior to start.
  • Medication competency and color blindness testing may be required.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam is not required for this specialty.
  • Floating between clinics requires reliable transportation.
