NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - New Brunswick, NJ
Position Overview
- Role: Registered Nurse (NICU)
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Patient Ratios:
- NICU: 1 nurse to 2 patients
- Special Care Nursery (SCN): 1 nurse to 3-4 patients
- Unit Details:
- 21-bed NICU and 16-bed SCN
- Facility is Level IV, but accepts travelers with Level III NICU experience
- Will not attend high-risk deliveries
- Floating: May float to Newborn Nursery (NBN), SCN, Pediatrics, and PICU as appropriate
- Charting System: EPIC
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Jersey
- Minimum 2 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience
- NICU experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- IV Certification
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background Checks:
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start
- Must include all aliases, all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, sex offender registry, nationwide and federal checks
- Pending background checks require signed attestation of no pending charges or criminal history
- Drug Screen: Negative 10-panel urine drug screen within 30 days of start
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 12 months clearing candidate for essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol
- Immunizations or positive titers for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Annual influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required
- Respirator Medical Clearance: Required prior to start with on-site fit testing mandatory
- Fit Test Questionnaire: Must be completed and submitted within 48 hours of confirmation
- Color Blind Testing: Required within 1 year if job tasks require color discrimination
- Latex Allergy Screening: Required within 1 year if job tasks require glove use
- References: Two references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Employment History: 7 years of work history required, with New Jersey candidates requiring verification of at least 1 year prior to start date
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required within 72 hours of signing, valid for 12 months
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required for applicable units, must be completed within 72 hours of signing
- IV Therapy/Infusion Exam: Required for all RNs except OR specialties, must be completed within 72 hours of signing
- Pass/Fail Testing: Pharmacology and Basic EKG exams required for clinical staff in specified units; candidates have 3 attempts to pass
- Skills Checklist: Must be completed and updated annually
Orientation & Training
- Annual Education Sign-Off: Must be completed prior to start and updated annually
- Facility-Specific Floating Policy: Must be completed for every new assignment or site transfer
- Baxter Orientation: Required for all RNs prior to start
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB): Required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs (not applicable for NICU)
- Other Certifications:
- ACLS not required for NICU RN
- Chemotherapy certification not required
- Stroke and Trauma CEUs not required for NICU
