Pediatric Infusion Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 3 patients
- Requires 2 years of Hematology/Oncology experience (inpatient or outpatient accepted)
- First-time travel nurses accepted
- Work schedule includes every other weekend and holidays
- Floating required to Pediatrics, Adolescent, PICU Stepdown units
- No block scheduling
- Patient population includes all types of childhood cancers and sickle cell patients
- Required skills: EPIC, Pediatric Early Warning Scores (PEWs), phlebotomy (A-lines, central lines, PICCs), chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care
- Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) experience preferred
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
- Minimum of 2 years oncology experience, with oncology experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- APHON (Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses) Chemotherapy Certification
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- IV certification
- Infusion experience
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
Additional Requirements & Information
- Must complete annual education sign-off and facility-specific orientation materials prior to start
- Must complete and upload required CEUs (Continuing Education Units) such as stroke and trauma CEUs if applicable
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs (online portion must be completed by hire date; in-person portion within 14 days of start)
- NIH Stroke Certification required if working in adult critical care, ED, telemetry, MS/Tele, cath lab, or PCU units
- Must comply with facility-specific health document requirements including immunizations and titers for measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, hepatitis B, and tetanus/diphtheria/Tdap
- Must complete Respiratory Safety clearance through designated system prior to start
- Must complete Fit Test Questionnaire within 48 hours of confirmation
- Floating to Pediatrics, Adolescent, and PICU Stepdown units is mandatory
- Locals accepted for this travel assignment
Patient Care Environment
- Pediatric infusion setting with a focus on hematology/oncology patients including childhood cancers and sickle cell disease
- Exposure to chemotherapy administration and monitoring
- Multi-disciplinary floating to related pediatric and critical care units
Work Schedule & Hours
- Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours per shift (total 36 hours/week)
- Every other weekend and holiday coverage required
Prior Travel Experience
- Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are accepted
