Neuro ICU Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Aurora, Colorado
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3x12 hours, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Overview

  • Work in a 24-bed Neurosurgical ICU, a Comprehensive Stroke Center and Level I Trauma Center.
  • High acuity, fast-paced surgical ICU environment.
  • Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients.
  • Floating as required.
  • Minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling period (may vary based on staffing needs).
  • No on-call required.
  • Charting system: Epic.
  • Scrub color: Navy.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Colorado.
  • Minimum 1 year of Neuro ICU experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required

Scheduling & Time Off

  • Maximum of 10 Return to Office (RTO) days approved.
  • RTO not allowed during:
    • June 28 - July 9, 2026
    • September 2 - September 12, 2026
  • Flexibility may be considered for harder-to-fill positions.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID (clear copies front and back).
  • E-Verify or attestation.
  • Proof of name change if applicable (certifications/licensure must match current legal name).
  • Background checks within 60 days of start, including:
    • 7-year background check with SSN trace, Colorado state checks, education verification (accredited nursing school), sex offender search, sanctions list, etc.
  • Education verification or transcript/diploma from accredited nursing program (CCNE or ACEN).
  • NURSYS verification for RN license within 60 days of start.
  • Colorado CAPS check results within 60 days of start.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA (not Chiropractor).
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start and annually updated (specific approved masks required).
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • TDAP within 10 years or signed declination within 1 year
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, with annual updates if positive TB history
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity via titer or vaccination
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
  • Drug testing within 30 days of start and annually updated (specific drug panel required).
  • COVID vaccine proof or signed declination accepted.
  • Color blindness testing via Ishihara exam (online testing not accepted for new candidates).

Competency Requirements (Must be current within 1 year)

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for Neuro ICU).
  • Core competency exams Part I, II, and III.
  • OSHA mandatory training.

References & Employment History

  • Two professional references from the last two years required; one must be from employment within the last year. References must be from Charge RN, Manager, Supervisor, or above.
  • Employment history verification for the last 3 years required, including explanations for gaps over 30 days.

Additional Notes

  • Candidate must confirm renewal plans for any certifications expiring within 90 days of assignment start to avoid clearance issues.
  • Facility-specific new employee orientation modules must be completed within the first two weeks of assignment.
  • Candidates with employment gaps of 15+ days are considered new and must meet full background and compliance requirements.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized Neuro ICU setting with a focus on high-acuity neurological and neurosurgical patient care during night shifts.
