Description
Physical Therapist - Acute Care Hospital (Travel/Contract)
Location: Rio Rancho, New Mexico
Contract Length: 13 weeks (minimum 10 weeks for new contracts and extensions)
Position Details
- Specialty: Physical Therapy - Inpatient Acute Care
- Shift: Day shift, 5 days a week (8 hours/day, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM)
- Schedule Options: Monday-Friday OR Tuesday-Saturday
- Weekend Requirement: 2 weekend shifts per month
- Caseload: Approximately 8 patients per day
- Patient Population: Adults, adolescents, geriatrics
- Types of Diagnoses: Falls, CVA (stroke), trauma, pneumonia, alcohol withdrawal, orthopedic surgeries (TKA, THA, ORIF), pulmonary embolism, sepsis, UTI, respiratory failure, liver/kidney failure, wounds
- Focus: Total joint patients with same-day discharge; last evaluations start at 5:00 PM
- Floating: No floating outside scope of practice
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- Locals: Not accepted within 100 miles radius
- Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours/week; facility may call off up to 3 times during a 13-week assignment
- Break Requirement: 6-month break required after 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of travel work
Required Qualifications
- Valid Physical Therapist license in New Mexico
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Experience in Acute Care, Clinic, Inpatient, Outpatient, and Rehabilitation settings
Skills & Clinical Competencies
- Acute care, outpatient clinic, rehabilitation hospital, skilled nursing facility experience
- Body mechanics, management of cervicalgia, low back pain
- Post-operative care for cervical, shoulder, and spinal surgeries
- Management of spinal conditions, total hip and knee replacements
- Cognitive disorders, Parkinson’s disease, post-stroke rehabilitation
- Spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury
- Home exercise program development and patient/family education

- Beds: 65 inpatient beds, 12 ICU beds

- Return to work restrictions: Absences longer than 7 days require approval
- Orientation and facility-specific training required before start
- Various facility-specific documents and certifications must be completed and acknowledged prior to or during orientation
