Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Elkin, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Overview

• Role: RN Circulator in Operating Room
• Surgical specialties include General, Gynecology (GYN), Orthopedics, Urology, Podiatry, and Endoscopy
• Must be able to circulate and scrub during procedures
• Comfortable with C-sections
• Patient ratio: 1:1

Schedule

• Monday to Friday, 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM (Day shift, 5x8 hours)
• Call coverage required: 1-2 nights per week and every 5th weekend
• No scheduled weekend hours outside of call

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Carolina
• Minimum 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Comfortable with C-sections
• Experience in OB/GYN, Orthopedics, Urology, and Endocrinology
• Knowledge of NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required during hours of service
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG within 30 days of start and updated annually
• Transcript or diploma required (education verification may be requested)
• Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Physical exam within the last 12 months
• Immunizations and health requirements:

  • Tdap within 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (annual updates required)
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; exemptions apply for candidates born before 1957
  • Hepatitis B: Series of 3 vaccinations or titer/declination accepted
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines, titer, or history of chickenpox
  • Seasonal Influenza vaccine required annually (with medical/religious exemptions accepted)
  • COVID-19 vaccine required or approved exemption; must be fully vaccinated prior to start

• References:

  • 2 professional references within 2 years required for travel RN positions
  • Performance evaluation required if previously employed at the facility; otherwise, a 3rd reference accepted
• Competency exams and pharmacology tests required and must be updated annually
• Facility-specific trainings and acknowledgments including:

  • Glucometer training
  • Stroke quiz
  • Confidentiality agreement
  • Standards of performance
  • Code of conduct
  • Substance abuse policy
  • Nursing specific checklist
• Orientation and safety manual acknowledgment required

• Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions: No more than about one week off

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with prior travel contract experience who are comfortable circulating and scrubbing in multiple surgical specialties and can commit to a 13-week travel assignment with call responsibilities.
