Radiation Therapist Travel/Contract Job – Wilmington, North Carolina


Job Summary

  • Position: Radiation Therapist (Radiology / Cardiology specialty)
  • Location: Wilmington, NC (Coastal Region)
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift Options:
    • 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, occasionally 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM)
    • 4 days a week, 10-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM or 8:00 AM – 6:30 PM with 30-minute lunch)
  • Hours per week: 40
  • Ratio: 1 therapist to 5 patients
  • No call or weekend requirements
  • Floating required between two clinical sites approximately 25-30 minutes apart

Job Details

  • No orientation or Dimensions training required; can start directly at the clinic
  • Floating between two clinics with different equipment:
    • Primary site: 3 Varian linear accelerators and 1 CT simulator
    • Secondary site: 1 Varian True Beam and 1 Siemens CT simulator
  • Therapists always paired with at least one other therapist; no solo work
  • Not expected to cut blocks, perform CT simulations alone, or calculate radiation doses
  • May be assigned to Storm/Hurricane Teams and required to report during catastrophic events or disasters
  • Manager schedules shifts based on department needs

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Radiation Therapist license in North Carolina
  • Radiation Therapist with a minimum of 2 years of experience
  • Radiation Therapist experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification – T (Therapy)

Scheduling & Time Off

  • Maximum of 7 days RTO (Request Time Off) allowed for auto-offer
  • No call or weekend shifts required
  • Floating between two clinics required

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check within 6 months for clinical candidates
  • Drug testing (9-panel) within 6 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; additional documentation if past positive TB
  • Required immunizations and titers:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (facility-specific declination form if titer negative/equivocal)
    • Varicella
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 1 – Oct 31)
  • Physical exam not required for this crisis profile
  • Radiation badge required for Radiation Therapists
  • Photo for badge must be submitted immediately after signing contract (passport style, white background, business attire)
  • Completion of facility-specific education modules and compliance training required prior to start
  • Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist (approx. 8-10 hours for acute candidates)
  • Must complete Medication Safety training and submit certificate of completion
  • Must complete Confidentiality Agreement and Hospital Policies Acknowledgement Form

Additional Notes

  • Therapists will not work alone and will always have an MD and RN on-site during the day
  • Shift start times may vary slightly based on clinic needs
  • Contract staff may be consolidated to a centralized office mid-contract if needed
  • Storm/Hurricane team participation may require reporting during emergencies

This position offers a structured schedule with no call or weekend requirements, floating between two nearby clinical sites, and the opportunity for first-time travel therapists. It requires solid experience in radiation therapy with specific technical skills and certifications.
