Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract
Location: Dayton, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 48
Unit & Patient Care Details
- 43-bed mixed acuity Advanced Care unit focusing on post-general surgery patients and stable cardiac telemetry patients.
- Targeted patient ratios: 1:5-6
- Unit may use a team nursing model (RNs, LPNs, PCTs) or primary nursing depending on unit needs.
- Navy blue scrubs required.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with titratable insulin drips
- Experience with titratable cardiac drips including amiodarone, cardizem, and cardene
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Licensure & Certifications
- Valid Ohio RN license with primary source verification (NURSYS verification required).
- ACLS, BLS (AHA only or acceptable placeholders while awaiting AHA certification).
- NIH Stroke Certification required within 12 months prior to start and updated annually (with a 5-day grace period).
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start or must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing (3 attempts allowed).
- Other certifications such as PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, CPI apply only to specific units and are not required for this role.
Floating & Scheduling Requirements
- Traveler will be the first to float at employer’s discretion, including to specialty clusters and high-risk respiratory/COVID units.
- Floating locations may include main campus and nearby campuses within 15 miles.
- Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays.
- Employer reserves the right to cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract due to low census and may cancel the agreement with 2 weeks’ notice without penalty.
- Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- E-Verify and I-9 compliance required prior to start.
- 7-year criminal background check (including SSN trace, national and county checks, sex offender registry). No open or pending cases allowed.
- Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness to work and free of communicable diseases.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray; annual TB questionnaire if past positive.
- Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 12 months; must include marijuana panel. Random drug screening during orientation week may be required.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
- Respiratory protection medical questionnaire and clearance required prior to orientation; N95 fit testing provided.
- Annual health questionnaire and candidate agreement must be completed prior to documentation due date.
- Two professional references within 2 years required (one must be a manager/supervisor/charge RN); employment verification accepted if references unavailable.
- Current resume/application required.
- Skills checklist updated within 1 year prior to documentation due date.
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required within 2 years of start.
Additional Notes
- Overtime is paid after 48 hours for 48-hour contracts.
- Nurses will be fitted for N95 masks prior to working on the high-risk respiratory unit unless PAPR is offered/needed.
- Request for time off (RTO) must be submitted with initial application; no RTO added after offer. Approval is at manager’s discretion.
This position offers a challenging night shift role in a mixed acuity telemetry unit with opportunities to work in a team nursing environment and float to specialty units as needed. Strong clinical skills in cardiac telemetry, EKG interpretation, and titratable drips are essential. Compliance with extensive credentialing and health requirements is mandatory.
