Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Dayton, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Night shift: 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Unit: 36-bed Neuroscience/High-Risk Respiratory Intermediate Care Unit (mixed med-surg/intermediate care)
- Patient population includes cerebrovascular accident (CVA), transient ischemic attack (TIA), seizures, neuro patients, and high-risk respiratory cases including COVID-19 patients
- Targeted nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 to 1:6
- Unit uses a team nursing model partnering RNs, LPNs, and PCTs to improve workload and patient care; nurses may also function in primary nursing depending on unit needs
- Floating required: may float within specialty clusters and to other campuses within 15 miles; includes high-risk respiratory and Neuro ICU units
- Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- Ventilator experience
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Required Certifications & Licenses
- (Section removed and integrated into Required Experience & Skills as per instructions)
Additional Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen including marijuana panel within 12 months
- Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness to work and free of communicable diseases
- Proof of immunizations or immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (vaccination, titer, or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray; annual TB questionnaire if past positive
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- Respiratory safety clearance within 1 year, renewed annually
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG required
- Employment application and current resume required
- Skills checklist updated within 1 year
- Two professional references within 2 years (one must be a manager/supervisor/charge RN) or employment verification if references unavailable
- Medical questionnaire for respiratory protection must be completed prior to orientation
- Candidate agreement form must be fully completed prior to documentation due date
Work Environment & Other Details
- Nurses wear navy blue scrubs
- Overtime paid after 48 hours worked in the contract period
- Facility reserves the right to cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract due to low census, with 2 weeks’ notice and no penalty
- Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives
- Floating assignments may include high-risk respiratory units and Neuro ICU with buddy system support
This position is ideal for experienced PCU RNs with ventilator and telemetry skills seeking a short-term travel contract in a neuroscience and high-risk respiratory care setting.
