Job Opportunity: Oncology Chemo Certified Registered Nurse

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Rotate Day/Night shifts every other weekend
  • Shift options:
    • Night: 3 shifts/week, 12 hours each (18:30 - 7:00)
    • Day: 3 shifts/week, 12 hours each (7:30 - 18:00)
  • Patient ratio approximately 1:4-5
  • Facility type: Short Term Acute Care, Teaching Hospital
  • Total staffed beds: 402
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Scrubs: Any color allowed, no hospital logos
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Flu vaccine required for all employees

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in District of Columbia
  • Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Current ACLS certification
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ONS Chemotherapy certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • At least 1 previous travel nursing assignment completed
  • Minimum 1 month of per diem nursing experience

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license if driving is an essential job function
  • Criminal background check within 90 days, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • I9/E-Verify attestation required prior to start
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
  • Immunizations and health documentation required:
    • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (strict guidelines apply)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; annual TB questionnaire required
    • Documentation of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
    • Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Tdap vaccine within last 10 years preferred
  • N95 Fit Test within 9 months of start, updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 3 years, minimum 80% score
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (Relias Dysrhythmia Basics A) required annually for telemetry and critical care units; must score 80% overall and 100% on lethal rhythms section
  • Color blindness testing (online or in-person) required
  • Other certifications as required by unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM) depending on assignment

Scheduling & Work Environment

  • Initial schedule based on unit needs; future schedules consider nurse preferences balanced with unit requirements
  • Weekend shifts approximately every other weekend, subject to unit needs

References & Work History

  • Two positive supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment, supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information
  • Verification of at least 2 years of employment in the past 7 years, preferably the most recent 2 years

This position is ideal for experienced oncology nurses with chemotherapy certification and prior travel nursing experience seeking a short-term contract in a teaching hospital setting with a focus on BMT/Oncology or strong Med-Surg skills.
