Registered Nurse (RN) – Med Surg (Nights)

Location: Des Moines, Iowa
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Provide nursing care primarily for Pulmonary and Medical-Surgical patients.
• Patient types include those requiring care for pulmonary conditions, ventilated patients on BiPAP, and trach care (highly preferred). May care for COVID-19 positive patients.
• Float across multiple campuses within the local area.
• Unit details:

  • Bed size: 23
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-6
  • Drips: Heparin
• Work schedule: Night shift.
• Orientation starts June 22.
• Required to work 1-2 of 3 upcoming summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed.
• Electronic Medical Record system used: EPIC.
• Overtime and holiday pay multipliers apply.

Required Qualifications

• Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license at time of submission.
• Minimum 24 months of current Medical-Surgical experience (required).
• Pulmonary patient care experience (required).
• Charge nurse experience (required).
• Experience caring for ventilated patients on BiPAP and trach care (highly preferred).
• Level I trauma experience (highly preferred).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or American Red Cross (required).
• Valid driver’s license (required).
• Skills checklist specific to Medical-Surgical nursing (required).
• Professional references or performance evaluations within the last 24 months preferred.
• First-time travelers accepted if 2+ years Medical-Surgical experience is met.

Additional Information

• Must comply with employee separation policy regarding prior employment within the system.
• Required to float across multiple campuses within a 50-mile radius.
• Call back and on-call pay available.
• Billable overtime applies after 40 hours per week.
• Charge/precept pay available.
