Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Room (ER) (Nights)

Location: Grundy Center, Iowa
Employment Type: Temporary
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work as the sole RN on shift from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, collaborating with an ED provider and ED clerk/tech; med-surg RNs available for additional support.
• Unit has 6 beds and cares for patients of all ages.
• Equipment used includes Lucas device, Spacelabs cardiac monitors, Airvo, and Hamilton ventilators.
• Patient care involves drips/titrates such as tenecteplase (TNK), cardiac drips, insulin, heparin, and occasional propofol for moderate sedation.
• Telemetry monitoring and interpretation experience required, preferably with Spacelabs cardiac monitors.
• Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC.
• Orientation dates available prior to start.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 24 months of Emergency Department (ED/ER) experience.
• Travel Experience: Must have completed at least one travel contract within the previous 15 months.
• Licensure: Active Registered Nurse license in Iowa or multistate compact license.
• Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – AHA
  • Trauma Nursing Core Competency (TNCC)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (can be obtained during onboarding)
• Skills:

  • Drip/titrate experience with TNK, cardiac drips, insulin, heparin.
  • Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI) experience.
  • Telemetry monitoring and interpretation.
  • EPIC EMR experience.
• De-escalation training: CPI, MOAB, MAB, or SAMA certificates accepted (preferred).
• Driver’s license required.

Highly Preferred Qualifications

• Active and in-hand de-escalation certification (CPI, MOAB, MAB, SAMA) or willingness to obtain during onboarding.
• Experience with Lucas device, Airvo, and Hamilton ventilator equipment.

Additional Information

• Contractors are required to work 1-2 of the 3 upcoming summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed.
• Night shift requires comfort working independently with minimal RN support overnight.
• Overtime and holiday pay multipliers apply (details not included here).
• Call-back and on-call pay available (details not included here).

This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurses comfortable working nights independently in a small critical care setting with advanced cardiac and emergency care skills.
