Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – CVICU (Cardiac ICU) – Columbus, Ohio
Position Details
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Schedule: Weekdays and some weekends; up to 6 weekend shifts per 4-week period (Saturday/Sunday for dayshift, Friday/Saturday for nightshift)
- Holidays: Rotating holidays
- Floating: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
- Patient Ratio: Estimated 1:1-2
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS certification
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Clinical skills including:
- Telemetry (TELE)
- Ventilator management (VENTS)
- Swan-Ganz catheter management (SWANZ)
- Conscious sedation
- Balloon pumps
- Pulmonary artery (PA) lines
- Experience with Epic electronic medical record system
Required Certifications & Licenses
- License: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA provider or instructor level only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA provider or instructor level only
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-specific competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required within 1 year of start and updated annually; minimum passing score 76%)
- Additional Certifications: (If applicable based on unit)
- NIH Stroke Certification (check unit requirements)
- Other certifications as required by unit or facility policies
Background & Screening Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including:
- Social Security trace
- Counties lived/worked
- Nationwide search
- Sex offender registry
- Motor Vehicle Record (if driving is part of job)
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using specific code (3701.881)
- Education accreditation verification for nursing degree from accredited programs (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- 2 professional references required (at least 1 from a manager or formal leadership; charge RN acceptable as second reference)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
- TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test renewal
- Adult Tdap vaccination (not Td or DTaP) required; exemptions not allowed for those working with infants or pregnant patients
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, and Rubella; boosters required if low titer and no proof of vaccines
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation
- Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series; signed declination acceptable
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended; proof of primary vaccination collected if available
Additional Facility Requirements
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policy
- Annual completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgment
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually for new contracts
- Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required for all candidates
- Proof of fingerprinting completion required (physical receipt or photo of fingerprint cards for out-of-state candidates)
- Background check and fingerprinting results must be clear prior to start; pending fingerprint attestations accepted under specific conditions
Contract Length
- Approximately 13 weeks
Parking
- Parking permits available for purchase (costs and options subject to change)
- Options include 24/7 garage access and shuttle service for some permits
This position is ideal for experienced Cardiac ICU RNs seeking a travel contract with night shifts and a dynamic patient care environment requiring advanced critical care skills.
