Registered Nurse (ER) - West Virginia

Location

• Buckhannon, West Virginia

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Unit and Environment

• Emergency Room with 8 beds, 2 trauma bays, and 1 decontamination room
• Fast Track ("Prompt Care") adjacent to ER with 4 beds, open 9 am - 9 pm, staffed by LPNs with NP or PA support
• Average patient volume: 42 patients per 24 hours in ER, approximately 30 in Prompt Care
• Common patient diagnoses: COVID, chest pain, abdominal pain, psychiatric cases, strokes, traumas
• No interventional cardiology or pulmonology on-site; patients requiring these services are transferred out
• Working toward stroke certification

Schedule and Shifts

• 12-hour shifts; night shift available (7 pm start)
• Typical staffing: 3 RNs on days, 3 on nights, 1 on 11 am - 11 pm shift
• Schedules made monthly, 4 weeks in advance
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
• Holiday work integrated into permanent staff rotation

Staffing and Support

• No charge nurse 24/7; charge nurse coverage for at least 12 hours daily
• House supervisor available 24/7
• No nurse aides or paramedics in ER
• One security guard stationed in ER
• Respiratory therapists available 24/7, floating throughout facility; sometimes only one RT on nights
• No IV team; RNs draw their own labs
• Pharmacy open until 5:30 pm; after-hours pharmacy support via external hospital system
• No floating outside of ER

Orientation

• Floor-specific orientation: 3 shifts with a preceptor on the assigned shift

Technology and Equipment

• EMR system: EPIC
• Telemetry/monitoring: Phillips hard-wired monitors in rooms and nurse’s station
• Ventilators available

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)

Dress Code

• Scrubs: Navy blue; undershirt must be white, black, navy, or gray
• Scrub jacket optional; if worn, must be navy

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license valid in West Virginia
• Required specialty experience: Emergency Room nursing (minimum 1 year recommended based on specialty)
• Prior travel experience: Not specified or required

Additional Notes

• Candidates must submit a copy of an unexpired driver’s license
• No charge nurse role available for travelers
