ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job – Fayetteville, North Carolina
Position Details
- Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse
- Location: Fayetteville, NC
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Care
- ICU setting with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2-3
- Must float within scope to similar units as needed
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
Experience & Licensure
- Minimum 2 years ICU experience required
- First-time travelers preferred but subject to manager approval based on experience
- North Carolina RN license required (pending licenses not accepted)
- Locals within 50-mile radius of facility not accepted
Certifications Required
- ACLS (American Heart Association or Military)
- BLS (American Heart Association or Military)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (updated annually)
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Must pass Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam annually via Relias
- Must pass Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) with minimum 80% within 3 attempts; remediation required after first failure
- Must pass EKG exam prior to start – no exceptions
Scheduling & Policies
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend
- Call-off policy: up to 2 shifts per 13-week assignment allowed without penalty; hours guaranteed after that
- Return staff policy: must be off assignment for 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Maximum of 2 contracts allowed per system; after second contract, must be off for 6 months before returning
- Block scheduling accommodations possible
Background & Health Requirements
- Background check required within 6 months of start, including SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search, and international search if applicable
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (specific substances tested)
- Physical exam within 1 year, signed by physician, NP, or PA-C, updated annually
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- TDAP within last 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative)
- Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative)
- Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination accepted)
- TB screening: Negative PPD, Q Gold, or Tspot within 1 year; chest X-ray if positive PPD (not older than 5 years)
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31); medical or religious exemptions require facility-approved forms and documentation
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but accepted if available
Facility & Orientation
- Short-term acute care, Level III Trauma Center, Teaching Hospital
- Total staffed beds: 733
- Charting system: Epic
- Scrub colors: Royal blue and white
- Orientation typically full day on Monday; report to Human Resources at 6:30 AM

- Prior travel experience is not required
- Locals within 50 miles are not accepted for this travel position

Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum of 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
