Registered Nurse – CVPICU (Cardiac/Pediatric Intensive Care Unit)
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Work Environment
- 23-bed Cardiac ICU caring for complex heart patients, including VAD and heart transplant patients
- Float required between cardiac stepdown unit and PICU
- Staffing ratios: 1:1 to 1:2
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Every other weekend required
- Will accept PICU RNs and provide training for CVPICU
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatrics CVICU experience, including experience within the last year
- PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) experience
- Certifications:
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- PALS issued by American Heart Association
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Skillset: Telemetry monitoring and ventilator management
- References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment with supervisory titles (charge, manager, supervisor, or above)
- Background checks and verifications as required (7-year history, education verification, drug screen, etc.)
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date
- Fit mask test within 12 months (N95 or approved respirators)
- Immunizations/vaccinations:
- TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-SPOT) within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap strongly recommended
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30–3/31)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (including amphetamines, marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP)
- Color blind exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are accepted
- Local candidates are not accepted for this role
- Indiana RN license holders will not be allowed to work at the facility after 11/30/2024, except for Periop/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (not applicable to this role)
- Facility-specific orientation and compliance documents must be completed prior to start
- Mandatory competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests required
- On-site fit testing available only as a last resort and with prior approval
Summary
This is a travel RN contract for a specialized cardiac pediatric ICU requiring strong critical care skills, pediatric certifications, and experience with telemetry and ventilators. The role involves night shifts with floating responsibilities and requires strict compliance with health, licensing, and background verification standards. Prior travel experience is not required.
