Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Work in an 18-bed Level 1 Trauma Operating Room.
  • Surgical specialties include General, Robotic, Laparoscopic, Trauma, Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Spine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Plastics, Burns, Urology, GYN, and Transplant surgeries.
  • Variable shifts: days/evenings with 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts.
  • Night shift example: 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (5:00 PM – 6:30 AM).
  • Call required Monday-Friday 9:00 PM – 6:30 AM, Saturday and Sunday split shifts with possible holiday/weekend coverage based on unit needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care during surgical procedures.
  • Circulate primarily for Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Spine, and General Surgery cases.
  • Collaborate closely with the surgical team.
  • Maintain accurate patient records using EPIC electronic health records system.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in ENT, Genitourinary (GU), Plastics, and Burns surgical cases.

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit (effective 11/13/25 for certain units).
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%).
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam required prior to start.
  • Unit-specific competency exams may be required.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required annually.
  • NURSYS license verification required.
  • Additional certifications such as PALS, NRP, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit assignment.

Background & Screening Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting with specific Ohio codes.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
  • Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Immunizations and health documentation:
    • Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12).
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year.
    • TB questionnaire in lieu of annual TB test.
    • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, and Rubella.
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable).
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation).
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31).
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.
  • Employment application and skills checklist required.
  • Background check and fingerprinting results must be approved prior to start; pending fingerprint attestations accepted under specific conditions.
  • Compliance with dress code and hand hygiene policies.
  • Completion of Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate prior to start and annually thereafter.
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually.

Parking

  • Various parking permit options available for agency staff (costs and availability subject to change).
