Registered Nurse - PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
Location: Greensboro, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Rotating weekends required
- Float to other units/facilities as needed
- Unit: 30-bed Medical Neuroscience Progressive Care Unit focused on medical neurological patients
- Centralized Cardiac Monitoring Department provides patient monitoring surveillance
- Staff scheduling done in 6-week periods via self-scheduling system
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
- Neuro Progressive Care Unit experience required
- Experience with CVA (stroke), external CPAP/BiPAP, TR band, and Yale Swallowing screen required
- Previous Charge RN experience preferred
- First-time travel nurses are welcome
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license for North Carolina with primary source verification within 30 days of start
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC certified
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC certified
- NIH Stroke Certification required (especially for Cardiac Progressive Care and Telemetry units)
- Pass/Fail EKG/Dysrhythmia exam required (2 attempts allowed, must score 82% or higher)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Social Security Card (required for badge issuance)
- Background check within 60 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including aliases, national criminal, federal court, sex offender, FACIS Level 3, and education verification
- Foreign equivalency evaluation if education was obtained outside the U.S. (must be submitted within 30 days after start)
- Education verification: Associate’s degree in nursing or higher required
- Employment application/resume with 7-year work history
- Verification of all employment within last 5 years through a third-party vendor
- Two supervisory references required (one within 12 months, one within 24 months prior to start)
- Annual skills checklist with a one-week grace period for renewal
- Facility-specific documents including health history form, badge photo meeting strict requirements, floating policy, contractor equipment acknowledgement, and job description review
- Workday login and onboarding tasks must be completed prior to start
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam (if applicable) within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test (N95 respirator) completed within current calendar year and updated annually
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult vaccine proof required)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines at least 28 days apart
- Hepatitis B: Titer or declination with booster series if non-reactive
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines at least 28 days apart
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 22 - Feb 27)
- Negative TB test (Qgold/TSPOT) within 6 months of start or chest x-ray if positive history
- TB questionnaire within 30 days of start and updated annually
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be flexible with scheduling and aware of zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences
- Pass/Fail EKG exam is mandatory for all RNs regardless of specialty
- Candidates must complete all compliance requirements by 12 Noon EST the Wednesday prior to start date
- Fingerprinting required only for Home Health and Long-Term Care positions (not applicable here)
- Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are accepted
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including Neuro PCU experience
- PCU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
