Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Night Shift

Shift Details

  • Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:00 PM to 6:00 AM)
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
  • No on-call required
  • Floating between like units within scope as needed
  • Block scheduling not accommodated
  • Locals not accepted (must be outside a 50-mile radius from main campus)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an RRT
  • Must be comfortable working with both adult and pediatric patients in ICU settings

Licensing & Certifications (Must be current and renewed prior to start)

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license for North Carolina
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or Military only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or Military only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or Military only
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required for specific units (Labor & Delivery, FCCU, NICU)
  • National tech certification (if applicable)
  • Annual Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (via Relias)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (annual update required)
  • Pass/Fail Testing for EKG/Medication competency with remediation policy

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Night shifts with weekend and holiday coverage required
  • Floating to other units as needed
  • Only 4 days allowed for time off (RTO) and no holidays off
  • Call-off policy: Up to 2 shifts off per 13-week assignment; after that, all contracted hours are guaranteed
  • Must be comfortable working with both pediatric and adult ICU patients

Background & Health Requirements

  • Background check required within 6 months of start (includes SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search, and international search if applicable)
  • Physical exam within 1 year, signed by physician, NP, or PA-C
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days (specific substances listed)
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • TDAP within last 10 years (no declinations accepted)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative)
    • Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative)
    • Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination accepted)
    • Annual flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (strict deadlines and documentation required)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but accepted if available

Facility & Orientation

  • Short-term acute care hospital, Level III Trauma Center, Teaching Hospital
  • Total staffed beds: 733
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Scrub color: Solid black or black and white
  • Orientation typically on Monday, majority of the day
  • Photo for badge required (professional passport-style, no large earrings, face piercings, unnatural hair colors, or head coverings unless religious)

    • Respiratory Therapist job description
    • Confidentiality and information agreement
    • Patient identification agreement
    • Conflict of interest questionnaire
    • Staff call out acknowledgement
    • Corporate code of conduct acknowledgement
    • Policy tech access acknowledgement
    • Professional appearance acknowledgement
    • Emergency contact form
    • Agency personnel form
    • Parking registration (if driving)
    • Computer use acknowledgement
    • Flu policy acknowledgment and exemption forms if applicable
  • Return staff policy: Must be gone for 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Maximum of 2 contracts allowed (can extend once), then must be gone for 6 months before returning
  • Religious and medical exemptions for COVID and flu vaccines must be approved by the facility with specific documentation

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
