Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)
Location: Kingsport, Tennessee

Job Details
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:30 – 7:00)
- Schedule: 36 hours per week (36/36 schedule), every other weekend
- Unit: Acute care surgical and bariatric unit
- Floating: Required to float to other units as needed
- Traveler Location: Must live within 100 miles of the facility
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical and Telemetry nursing, with experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
Certifications & Compliance
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Check unit requirements (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI accepted)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC) but are not mandatory for this role
- Annual Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
- Primary source verification of Tennessee RN license and NURSYS verification required
Background & Health Requirements
- Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education verification required
- Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required for Tennessee-licensed candidates
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required annually)
- Standard 9-panel drug screen within 14 days of start (instant test acceptable as placeholder)
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or documentation of immunity/declination:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) titers or vaccination documentation
- Varicella titer or vaccination documentation
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
- Negative TB test (2 PPDs within last 12 months or equivalent) or chest X-ray if history of positive test
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31)
Orientation & Work Conditions
- Orientation includes 16 hours of non-billable training
- Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
- Additional shifts beyond the contracted schedule may be offered as overtime and flexed as needed
- Expected to participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge must be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing (neutral background, no filters, no visible facial piercings/tattoos)
- Completion of facility-specific forms and compliance documents within specified timeframes (e.g., respirator medical evaluation questionnaire within 48 hours)
- Respirator fit testing completed onsite; must comply with CDC facial hair guidelines for respirator use
- Review and comply with facility dress code, uniform guidelines, smoking/tobacco use policy, contaminated sharps and body fluid exposure statement, and influenza policy
