Job Opportunity: MRI Tech (Pediatric)

Location

Position Details

  • Specialty: Pediatric MRI Tech (Radiology / Cardiology)
  • Shift: Night shift, 4 days per week, 10 hours per day (8:00 PM – 6:30 AM)
  • Daily caseload varies: Inpatient, ER, and Outpatient
  • Floating: May float within other buildings on campus and sister facilities
  • On-call: Not required
  • Holidays: Required to work if they fall on scheduled shift

  • Teaching hospital with Magnet status and Level 1 Trauma designation
  • Total staffed beds: 865
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Parking: Paid nights and weekends only; one-time $20 parking pass fee
  • Scrub color: Teal top, black bottom
  • Radius rule: 60 miles; locals accepted on a case-by-case basis

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of MRI Technologist experience within the last year
  • Pediatric MRI Technologist experience required
  • Required certifications/licenses:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC accepted
    • MR certification (ARRT MR or ARMRIT)
  • Experience with Siemens MRI equipment required

Licensure

  • MRI Techs are not required to have a South Carolina Radiology license
  • Primary source verification of active, unencumbered license required
  • Background checks and education verification required

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS certification required for all clinical candidates
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required for all pediatric units except Pediatric OR
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required
  • Color Blind Testing required prior to start
  • Competency exams required; pediatric OR competency preferred but regular OR competency accepted if no pediatric experience
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required as applicable

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+) within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers required or proof of immunity for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or proof of prior positive with follow-up chest x-ray
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • COVID-19 vaccines highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31)

Onboarding & Documentation

  • Clear, passport-style photo required for badge (frontal view, business casual attire, no hats or sunglasses)
  • Facility-specific orientation modules must be completed prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
  • Required documents include:
    • Driver’s license/state ID
    • Social Security card or SSN verification
    • Background checks covering 7 years of residence/employment
    • Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
    • Employment history verification of last 3 clinical employers
  • All certifications must be valid beyond 30 days from start date; expiring certifications must be renewed or scheduled for renewal before start

Additional Notes

  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks despite guaranteed hours
  • During hurricane season (June–November), employees may be assigned to emergency response teams; travelers should consider this before accepting or extending assignments
  • All required documents and certifications must be submitted and approved prior to start
