Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract

Location

  • Saint Louis, Missouri

Employment Type

  • Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 26 weeks

Work Schedule

  • Night shifts only
  • 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 to 7:15)
  • Weekend requirement: every third weekend
  • Guaranteed minimum: 3 shifts per 13 weeks
  • Floating within scope to meet facility needs

  • Short Term Acute Care Hospital
  • Teaching hospital with Level Trauma designation
  • Total staffed beds: 1259
  • Charting system: EPIC

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Clinical Skills & Competencies

  • Airway management and suctioning: endotracheal tube, extubation, nasal and oral airway suctioning, oropharyngeal suctioning, sputum specimen collection, tracheostomy suctioning
  • Medication administration experience with: Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, Lidocaine, Nitric Oxide (INo), Pulmicort, Racemic epinephrine, Xopenex
  • Familiarity with medication delivery systems: aerosol mask and trach setups, metered dose inhalers
  • Nebulizer use: hand-held, T-piece, trach collar, ultrasonic
  • Oxygen therapy: High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
  • Ventilator management: BiPAP, CPAP, troubleshooting high pressure alarms, weaning from mechanical ventilation
  • Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) interpretation

Licensure & Compliance

  • Government-issued ID required (e.g., driver's license)
  • Background checks including criminal, statewide, nationwide, and international (if applicable)
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification required prior to start
  • Missouri and Illinois state-specific background and exclusion checks as applicable
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include comprehensive drug panel and remain valid throughout assignment
  • Fit mask testing (N95 respirators) required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health requirements:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as required
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 - Apr 1)
  • HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
  • Facility-specific orientation modules required (approx. 16 hours) unless completed in current calendar year

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
  • Competency exams as applicable, including medication/pharmacology competency
  • Ability to work within a 75-mile radius rule (locals not accepted)
  • Return to office (RTO) restrictions: no more than 7 days
  • Parking available with monthly passes (fees apply for day shifts; free parking for straight night shifts)

This position offers a comprehensive clinical experience in a high-acuity, teaching hospital environment with advanced respiratory care responsibilities and requires strong technical skills and compliance with rigorous credentialing and health standards.
