Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a high-risk, high-volume Labor & Delivery (L&D) unit with approximately 500-600 deliveries per month.
- Float responsibilities include postpartum and antepartum care; may float to sister facilities providing Mother/Baby care.
- Patient population includes midwifery clients, private OBs, adult recovery services (substance recovery), and community care clinics.
- Use of EPIC electronic medical records and electronic fetal monitoring required.
- Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines.
- Unit includes 4 operating rooms and 31 beds/rooms.
- Schedule posted every 6 weeks and adjusted to meet unit needs; work every other weekend and holidays as needed.
- Functions as Baby Nurse during delivery and provides newborn care until transfer to postpartum.
- Must be able to circulate in the OR and provide newborn care including eye care, Vitamin K injections, and newborn assessments.
- Administer medications such as Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Washington.
- Minimum 3 years of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year.
- Experience working with high-risk patients.
- Ability to provide newborn care (NB care).
- Ability to handle magnesium sulfate administration.
- Postpartum experience.
- Experience with EPIC electronic medical records.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification.
- Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Orientation & Scheduling
- No non-billable orientation hours required (0 hours NBO).
- Pre-approved time off considered on a case-by-case basis.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; must be updated annually.
- Education verification required; international education requires diploma/transcript and possibly CES report.
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years (declination accepted)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted)
- COVID vaccination record preferred (declinations not required)
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually for travel candidates.
- Fit mask testing required annually for travel candidates.
Additional Requirements
- Must complete annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via assigned LMS.
- Must acknowledge and comply with float policy; may be required to float to other nearby facilities.
- Photo ID badge requirements apply but no badge photo required specifically for this facility.
Notes
- Candidates without required experience or certifications will not be considered.
- First-time travel nurses are accepted.
- Local candidates at the same rate; former employees of other facilities may be eligible after a 3-month separation.
- Prior travel experience is not required.
