Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Pediatric Cardiac ICU (CVPICU)

Unit Overview
- Pediatric Cardiology Intensive Care Unit (PCICU)
- 29-bed unit, Beacon Award-winning
- Referral center for major pediatric cardiac surgery in South Carolina
- Average daily census: 26 patients
- Patient population: congenital heart disease of any age
- Common procedures: cardiac surgery, ventricular assist devices (VAD), heart transplant, cardiac catheterization
- Advanced therapies: ECMO, CRRT, complex supportive therapies
- Pediatric palliative care available as needed
- Staffing includes RNs, Patient Care Technicians, Unit Secretaries, Respiratory Therapy, Pediatric Dietitians, and Pediatric Pharmacists
- All beds are monitored
Shift Details
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Patient ratios: 1:1 or 1:2 depending on acuity
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule plus holiday rotation
- Floating within scope to meet facility needs is required
- Travelers may be cancelled one shift every two weeks
- Block scheduling accommodations possible at manager’s discretion
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU (CVPICU) experience, with CVPICU experience within the last year
- Pediatric patient care experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Copy of Driver’s License and Social Security Card
- Completed and accurate I-9 form with work eligibility attestation
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including:
- SSN Trace
- Statewide and national criminal checks
- Sex offender registry
- FACIS 3 and international searches if applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
- South Carolina Medicaid Excluded Providers check
- Primary source verification of active, unencumbered RN license with no pending actions
- NURSYS verification required
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment application/resume including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
- Verification of last 3 clinical employers (or all if fewer than 3)
Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (pediatric preferred but regular acceptable)
- Competency exam (pediatric preferred but regular acceptable)
- Color blind testing prior to start
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+) within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
- Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
Facility Specific Requirements
- Completion of orientation modules and First Day Instructions (FDI) prior to start; estimated 2 hours
- Upload COVID and flu vaccine documentation into facility platform
- Clear, passport-style badge photo required by Wednesday end of day prior to start
- Radiation badge required if assigned to units involving radiation exposure (not applicable for this RN role)
- No travel pairs accepted on this unit
Additional Notes
- Local candidates within 60 miles accepted (with adjusted pay rate)
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at time of application and approved based on unit needs
- The unit is recognized nationally for outcomes and quality of care (voted #4 in US News report, #1 in nation for outcomes)
