Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)

Shift Details

  • Day shift
  • 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
  • Total 36 hours per week

Patient Ratio

  • 1 nurse to 3 patients

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the specialty

Prior Travel Experience

  • Not accepted for first-time travelers (must have prior travel experience)

Weekend Requirement

  • Weekends required unless schedule states otherwise

Floating

  • Floating within the hospital required
  • No floating to sister hospitals

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active Registered Nurse license valid in Washington (pending licenses not accepted)
  • Required certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant)

Clinical Skills & Responsibilities

  • Skilled in newborn care including:
    • Assessments, vital signs, glucose screening, baths
    • Complex feeding techniques
    • Phototherapy
    • Medication administration
  • Proficient with infusion therapies:
    • Magnesium infusions
    • Insulin infusions
    • PCA/PCEA infusions
    • Heparin infusions

Call Requirements

  • No call required

Scheduling Notes

  • Block scheduling accommodations generally not available unless otherwise stated
  • Locals accepted
  • Return to work restrictions: maximum 1 week

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

Background Checks

  • 7-year criminal background check within 45 days of start
  • Must include nationwide, sex offender, FACIS Level 1, and Washington WATCH searches
  • Education verification required (diploma/transcript acceptable for RNs)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (required by agency)
  • Fit mask test within 9-12 months of start (N95 preferred; onsite PAPR testing available if needed)
  • Immunizations/vaccinations or documented immunity required for:
    • Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (series completion or declination with documentation)
    • Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines; history of disease not accepted)
    • Influenza vaccination or approved exemption/declination during flu season
    • COVID vaccination or declination (for tracking purposes)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframe

Competency Exams & Training

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% in dosage calculations)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (as applicable)
  • Other unit-specific competencies as required
  • EPIC/Alaris integration video and attestation required prior to start

Facility-Specific Documents

  • DMV-style photo for badge (due Monday prior to start)
  • Signed PCIS and Pyxis agreements (as applicable)
  • Department checklist completion
  • WA license complaint clearance (for WA licensed nurses)
  • Umbilical cord blood collection training (for Labor & Delivery RNs)

State-Specific Requirements (Washington)

  • Suicide prevention training required for multi-state licensed nurses using compact license
  • Demographic attestation required for multi-state licensed nurses prior to starting assignment

Additional Notes

  • Performance evaluation requested at end of assignment (Montlake location)
  • Radiation badges no longer provided by agency for new candidates; must be supplied by facility if needed

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington
  • Minimum 2 years of NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care) experience
  • NICU experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
