Registered Nurse (RN) - Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF)

Location: Wheeling, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts (approximately 36 hours per week)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
Scheduling: No self-scheduling; schedule based on facility needs
Call/Standby: None required
Floating: Travelers will float before core staff as needed

Facility & Unit Details

• Skilled Nursing Facility / Long Term Care floor with a mix of long-term and short-term residents
• 2 floors, 30 residents per unit (60 total)
• Private rooms
• EMR system: Point Click Care
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • RN/LPN: 1:15
  • CNA: 1:10
• No telemetry monitors on unit; RNs do not read telemetry strips
• No separate COVID unit; private rooms with enhanced droplet precautions
• PPE: N95 masks used; no PAPR required
• COVID vaccine not required

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Patients unable to care for themselves
• Conditions include: Sepsis, Femur fractures, NSTEMI, Chronic Kidney Failure, Congestive Heart Failure, Urinary Tract Infections
• Mix of long-term residents and those rehabilitating to return home

Job Duties & Clinical Responsibilities

• RN responsibilities include:

  • Managing IVs, PICC lines, mediports, central lines
  • Administering IV antibiotics, blood products, and IV fluids
• LPN duties (for context): medication administration, wound care, catheter care, PEG tube feedings, ostomy care, tracheostomy care

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license for West Virginia
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required prior to first day
• CPR certification required prior to first day

Team & Support

• Interdisciplinary team includes Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Social Services, Case Managers, Dieticians, Pharmacist, and Medical Records staff on site
• Pharmacist available on site; medications supplied from nearby hospital
• Physicians available 24/7 by phone
• Always a charge nurse present on the unit

Orientation & Dress Code

• Orientation: 2 shifts on unit-specific orientation
• Scrub colors:

  • RNs and LPNs: navy blue
  • CNAs: gray scrub pants with any print top

• No holiday requirements specified
• No call or standby duties
• Travelers expected to float before core staff when needed

This position is suitable for experienced RNs comfortable with IV therapy and skilled nursing care in a long-term care setting.
