Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF)
Location: Wheeling, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours: 12-hour shifts (approximately 48 hours per week)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
Scheduling: No self-scheduling; schedule based on facility needs
Orientation: 2 shifts
Facility & Unit Details
- Skilled Nursing Facility / Long Term Care floor with a mix of long-term and short-term residents
- 60 total residents on the floor (30 per unit)
- Private rooms
- EMR system: Point Click Care
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- RNs/LPNs: 1:15
- CNAs: 1:10
- No telemetry monitors on the unit
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating: Travelers may float before core staff as needed
- Scrub colors:
- RNs and LPNs: Navy blue nurses scrubs
- CNAs: Gray scrub pants with any print top
- COVID Precautions:
- No separate COVID unit; private rooms with enhanced droplet precautions
- N95 masks used
- COVID vaccine not required
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Patients unable to care for themselves
- Common conditions: Sepsis, Femur fractures, NSTEMI, Chronic Kidney Failure (CKF), Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Urinary Tract Infections (UTI)
- Mix of long-term residents and those rehabilitating to return home
Job Duties & Clinical Skills
- RN responsibilities include:
- Managing IVs, PICC lines, mediports, central lines
- Administering IV antibiotics, blood products, and IV fluids
- LPN duties (for context):
- Medication administration, wound care, Foley catheter care, PEG tube feedings, ostomy care, tracheostomy care
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current RN license for West Virginia
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required prior to first day
- CPR certification required prior to first day
Team & Support
- Interdisciplinary team includes Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Social Services, Case Managers, Dieticians, Pharmacist, and Medical Records staff all on site
- Pharmacist available on site; medications supplied from nearby hospital
- Physicians available 24/7 by phone
- Always a charge nurse present on the unit
