Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Quincy, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
• Target nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5 to 1:6 (occasionally 1:7)
• Weekend schedule: Every other weekend required
• Float as needed
• Block scheduling can be partially accommodated
• Willing to accept 36 or 48 hours per week (specify preference)

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
• Minimum of 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Certifications & Competencies

• PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC certifications as applicable to specialty or unit (not required for this role unless specified)
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with minimum passing score of 80% or Angoff score
• Unit-specific competency exams required
• OSHA mandatory training, updated annually
• Color blindness test required for all travelers
• Core training parts I, II, and III required annually

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 30 days of start, confirming good health and ability to work without restrictions
• N95 Fit Test within 12 months of start (specific mask models required)
• Tdap vaccination within 10 years or signed declination
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (2-step PPD or equivalent testing accepted)
• Proof of immunity or vaccination for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
• COVID-19 vaccination proof required prior to start
• Drug screening: 10-panel test within 30 days of start, no rapid results accepted

Background & Documentation

• 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, including:

  • SSN trace
  • County searches for last 7 years
  • Alias check
  • National criminal and sex offender registry
  • Education verification (diploma or transcript acceptable)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks, updated annually
• Employment application and verification of last 3 years of work history required
• At least 2 professional references within last 3 years required
• Various facility-specific documents and acknowledgments must be completed prior to start (e.g., confidentiality, code of conduct, safety information)
• Government-issued photo ID and 2 forms of ID required
• Photo for badge (headshot, JPEG format)

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
