Description
Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Oncology (Travel/Contract)
Location: Bristol, Tennessee
Schedule:
- 36 hours per week, 3 shifts of 12 hours each (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
- 36/36 schedule (work 36 hours, then 36 hours off)
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call duties
- Floating to other units as needed
Job Details
- Travelers do not administer chemotherapy
- Expected to actively participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care
- General orientation starts on Sundays (online compliance-based learning)
- Orientation includes 16 hours of nonbillable time
- Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
- Additional overtime shifts may be flexed based on hospital census without penalty
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
- Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience, with oncology experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Annual completion of Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
Certifications & Compliance
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification may be required depending on unit
- Other certifications (PALS, NRP, TNCC) may be required or preferred depending on unit assignment
- State RN license with primary source verification required
- NURSYS verification required
- Medication and competency exams as applicable
Background & Health Requirements
- Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education verification required
- Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required for work in Tennessee
- Physical exam required within 1 year of start (not annually)
- Standard 9-panel drug screen within 14 days of start (instant test acceptable as placeholder)
- Fit mask testing completed onsite; must comply with CDC facial hair guidelines for respirator use
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or documentation of immunity/declination:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) titers or vaccination documentation
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
- Varicella titer or vaccination documentation
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31)
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge must be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing (neutral background, no filters, no bulky jewelry, hair visible)
- Completion of facility-specific forms including staff info, dress code, contaminated sharps/body fluid exposure statement, smoking/tobacco use policy, influenza policy, respirator medical evaluation questionnaire, and respiratory medical clearance form
- Candidate must review and comply with facility’s CDC facial hair guidelines for respirator use
