Description

Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Oncology (Travel/Contract)

Location: Bristol, Tennessee
Schedule:

  • 36 hours per week, 3 shifts of 12 hours each (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
  • 36/36 schedule (work 36 hours, then 36 hours off)
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call duties
  • Floating to other units as needed

Job Details

  • Travelers do not administer chemotherapy
  • Expected to actively participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care
  • General orientation starts on Sundays (online compliance-based learning)
  • Orientation includes 16 hours of nonbillable time
  • Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
  • Additional overtime shifts may be flexed based on hospital census without penalty

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
  • Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience, with oncology experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Annual completion of Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement

Certifications & Compliance

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification may be required depending on unit
  • Other certifications (PALS, NRP, TNCC) may be required or preferred depending on unit assignment
  • State RN license with primary source verification required
  • NURSYS verification required
  • Medication and competency exams as applicable

Background & Health Requirements

  • Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required
  • Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required for work in Tennessee
  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start (not annually)
  • Standard 9-panel drug screen within 14 days of start (instant test acceptable as placeholder)
  • Fit mask testing completed onsite; must comply with CDC facial hair guidelines for respirator use
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or documentation of immunity/declination:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) titers or vaccination documentation
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
    • Varicella titer or vaccination documentation
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31)

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge must be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing (neutral background, no filters, no bulky jewelry, hair visible)
  • Completion of facility-specific forms including staff info, dress code, contaminated sharps/body fluid exposure statement, smoking/tobacco use policy, influenza policy, respirator medical evaluation questionnaire, and respiratory medical clearance form
  • Candidate must review and comply with facility’s CDC facial hair guidelines for respirator use

  • References: minimum 2 preferred, 3 ideal
  • Skills checklist required prior to start
  • Hospital may flex shifts based on census without penalty to traveler
  • Floating to other units may be required
