Description

Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Oncology (Travel/Contract)

Location: Bristol, Tennessee
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:30–7:00)
Schedule: 36 hours per week (36/36 schedule)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Patient ratio: 1:7 Medical-Surgical
  • Travelers do not administer chemotherapy
  • Every other weekend work required
  • No on-call duties
  • Floating to other units as needed
  • Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
  • Additional overtime shifts may be assigned based on census needs without penalty
  • Expected to participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
  • Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience, with oncology experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Orientation & Onboarding

  • General orientation begins on Sundays with online computer-based learning (CBLs)
  • 16 hours of nonbillable orientation required
  • Photo for badge must be submitted within 48 hours of signed contract (specific photo standards apply)
  • Respirator medical evaluation questionnaire and medical clearance forms must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing
  • Fit mask testing completed onsite; must comply with CDC facial hair guidelines for respirator use
  • Various facility-specific documents and policies must be reviewed and completed, including dress code, contaminated sharps exposure statement, smoking/tobacco use, influenza policy, and flu vaccination exemption forms if applicable

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Background check within 30 days of start date covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years; updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required
  • Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required for candidates licensed or working in Tennessee
  • NURSYS license verification required
  • Primary source verification of state license required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start (not required annually)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines (2 PPDs within last 12 months or equivalent)
  • Immunizations or titers required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (series, titer, or declination accepted)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination required
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31)
  • Standard 9-panel drug screen within 14 days of start (instant test acceptable as placeholder)

  • Skills checklist required
  • References: minimum 2 preferred, 3 ideal

Notes

  • Travelers must be prepared to float to other units as needed
  • No chemotherapy administration allowed for travelers
  • Hospital supports nursing student education as part of the role
  • Contract includes flexibility for shift cancellations or adjustments based on census without financial penalty
