Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist - NICU

Location

Shift Details

  • Day shift, 3 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Every other weekend and holidays as needed
  • Floating between Bridgeport Hospital and Milford campuses, including NICU and Pediatric units

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Certified Respiratory Therapist with NICU experience, including at least 1 year of experience within the last year
  • Experience working with neonate patients
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • Proven Respiratory Therapist experience

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Current state Respiratory Therapist license (CRT or RRT)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) may be required depending on unit
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred or required for trauma units
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care in a Level 3 NICU setting
  • May orientate students and new hires
  • Support multiple hospital units as needed, including NICU and Pediatrics
  • Maintain proficiency with specialized neonatal ventilators

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, sex offender, and federal databases
  • Verification of education and licensure through primary sources
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually
  • Required immunizations and titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap (highly preferred for pediatric specialties)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
  • Annual flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
  • TB testing or chest x-ray as applicable
  • Completion of required training modules and attestations, including but not limited to:
    • Language Services Training
    • CAUTI Education (except NICU)
    • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment
    • Mobile Heartbeat Alarm (except NICU)
    • Stroke Education (except NICU and pediatric specialties)
    • CLABSI Prevention
    • Preventing Pressure Injury
    • Patient Transportation with Oxygen
    • Pyxis ES MedStation
    • Baxter Pump Interoperability
    • Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
    • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (except certain campuses)
    • Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health, Home Health)
    • New Employee Orientation
    • 21st Century Cures Act Module (for RRT)
    • Chaperone Policy Training
    • Fire Safety Module (effective 5/4/2026)
    • EPIC testing or training as applicable

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must have photo ID matching legal name on first day
  • Floating assignments depend on census and staffing needs
  • Candidates must confirm all Return to Office (RTO) details are final before offer acceptance
  • References required per standard, with at least one supervisor reference for RRTs
  • Must be prepared for potential orientation and training on specialized equipment and hospital policies

This position is ideal for experienced Respiratory Therapists with NICU and trauma experience who have prior travel assignments and are comfortable working in a dynamic hospital environment with multiple unit responsibilities.
