Description
Registered Nurse – Cardiac Telemetry/Stepdown Unit
Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts (7 PM – 7 AM), 36 hours per week
Unit: 6N Cardiac/Telemetry Progressive Care Unit (Stepdown)
Unit Size: 36 beds
Unit Overview
- Higher acuity telemetry unit with stepdown level care.
- Common patient types include cardiac patients such as post-cardiac catheterization, acute myocardial infarction (AMI), post-operative lung surgery (after CCU), respiratory failure, chest tubes, pacemakers, post-PCI.
- No arterial lines or sheath pulling required.
- Unit uses Phillips telemetry monitors; RNs must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips.
- Respiratory therapy manages CPAP and BiPAP; nurses are not expected to manage respiratory equipment.
Nurse-to-Patient Ratios
- MedSurg/Telemetry acuity: typically 1:5, rarely 1:6 (only if anticipating discharge).
- Progressive Care Unit acuity: 1:4.
- Charge nurse available 24/7; night charge nurse takes patient assignments.
- CNAs assigned approximately 1 per 9 patients; team nursing model with 1 RN and 1 CNA for 6-7 patients.
Required Certifications & Licensure
- Current BLS (American Heart Association) certification required.
- Valid, unexpired driver’s license required (due to 50-mile radius rule for submissions).
- Must hold an active RN license.
Clinical Skills & Experience
- Must be able to titrate cardiac drips including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Integrelin, Heparin, Ativan, Lasix, and Nitro (up to 50 mcg).
- Experience as a Stepdown RN preferred due to higher acuity and drip titration requirements.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
- No specific minimum years of specialty experience stated, but higher acuity and skills suggest experienced RN preferred.
Scheduling & Work Requirements
- Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday).
- Holiday shifts included in permanent staff rotation.

- No false nails allowed.
