Description

NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Work primarily in a Level III or IV NICU caring for neonates born at 23-24 weeks gestation.
  • Unit has a dedicated Admit Nurse; travelers typically do not admit babies.
  • Floating is rare but may be required to other campuses or units such as Pediatrics or Special Care Nursery (SCN). If floating to Pediatrics, care is limited to infants.
  • NICU size: 77 beds with an average census of 50.
  • No ECMO cases; experience with CPAP/BiPAP, high frequency vents, oscillators, blood/blood products administration, cardioversion/defibrillation, cooling/warming blankets, feeding tubes, PICC/central lines, and syringe pumps is expected.
  • Attend high-risk deliveries and neonatal surgeries.
  • Block scheduling available (3 or more shifts in a row if preferred).
  • Must be open to floating to different campuses within reasonable distance.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington State.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience, with NICU experience within the last year.
  • Current certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
    • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Education: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Social Security Card (as applicable).
  • Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; must be updated annually.
  • Education verification and transcript/diploma (especially if internationally educated).
  • NURSYS license verification for RNs.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation.
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • TDAP vaccine within 10 years or declination accepted.
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination.
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season.
    • COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted with adherence to masking policies.
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
  • Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use.
  • WA State Patrol Search (WATCH) and other state-specific background checks as required by law.
  • References: Minimum of 2 references covering at least 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty within the last 3 years.
  • Employment application covering at least the last 5 years of employment.
  • Skills checklist updated annually as applicable.

Additional Notes

  • Previous permanent employees of any affiliated facility must have a minimum 3-month separation before qualifying for a travel position.
  • Badge photo is not required for this specific facility.
  • Candidates must complete annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via the designated learning management system.
  • Floating policy acknowledgment is required.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity NICU environment with advanced neonatal care technologies and requires a highly skilled and flexible RN with NICU experience.
