Registered Nurse – Med/Surg Telemetry (Travel/Contract)

Location: Mayfield Heights, Ohio
Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care on a Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit during night shifts.
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, each 12 hours long.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 1.5 years of recent Med/Surg Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS and ACLS must be current; renew if expiring within 30 days of start.
  • Baseline Competency Exam (Medication administration and ECG interpretation) required at orientation (not required for legacy candidates with less than 6 months gap between contracts).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming ability to safely perform job functions.
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted).
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with annual updates if applicable).
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers with boosters if needed.
    • Hepatitis B vaccination/titer or declination accepted with agency-approved exemptions.
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if needed.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (no declinations accepted).
  • Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start.

Background & Screening Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license or state ID) required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Comprehensive background check including 7-year FCRA-compliant search, education verification, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) within 12 months, updated annually. Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • Drug testing and immunization documentation must be current and compliant with facility standards.

Documentation & Onboarding

  • Complete all required online training modules prior to start; modules must be done on a computer using Google Chrome.
  • Photo for badge required (headshot, shoulders up, white background).
  • Resume/CV with at least 3 years prior work history including 2 years clinical acute care experience in a similar area.
  • Two professional references from employment within the last year (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).

Additional Notes

  • Candidates may start with fingerprinting results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start.
  • Physical exam and eye exam do not need to be updated if currently on assignment without a break longer than 30 days.
  • Medical and religious exemptions for vaccines and fit mask are accepted but require agency approval and facility review.
  • Baseline competency exams and SafeMedicate preparation materials are part of orientation.
  • Candidates with gaps longer than 6 months since last assignment at this facility may need to repeat onboarding modules and competency exams.

This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs licensed in Ohio or a compact state, seeking a night shift travel contract with a reputable healthcare facility.
