Job Opportunity: Oncology Chemo Certified Registered Nurse

Job Summary

• Provide nursing care primarily for newly diagnosed acute leukemia and hematology oncology adult and geriatric patients.
• Work in a medical unit with a high volume of blood products, IV antibiotics, and electrolyte management.
• Staffing ratio goal: 1 nurse to 4 patients, occasionally 1:5.
• Schedule: 12-hour shifts (day/night rotation possible), approximately 36 hours per week, night shift primarily (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM), 3 shifts per week.
• Self-scheduling requests accepted before final schedule is set; shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but subject to staffing needs.
• Orientation: First week Monday-Friday dayshift; second week includes 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor.
• Special focus on infection prevention and patient falls prevention.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 1 year of hematology/oncology nursing experience in an inpatient setting within the last year
• Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Current ACLS certification
• ONS Chemotherapy Certification
• Experience with telemetry monitoring
• Proficient in PICC line management
• Experience with central line blood draws

Patient Population

• Adults and geriatrics with acute leukemia and hematology oncology diagnoses.

Compliance and Background Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting with specific Ohio codes.
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
• Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed).
• Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
• Immunizations and health documentation required:

  • Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12).
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers.
  • Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable).
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation).
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31).
• Fit mask testing required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026.
• Annual review and signing of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies.
• Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.

Orientation and Competency Requirements

• Unit-specific competency exams required, including:

  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam prior to start.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%).
• Background check and fingerprinting must be completed and cleared prior to start; pending fingerprint attestations accepted under specific conditions.
• Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.

• Computerized charting system used: EPIC.
• Variable weekend shifts based on unit needs.
• Candidates must comply with all facility-specific policies and documentation requirements.
