Job Opportunity: RRT PICU (Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics)

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 18:45–7:15)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Must have at least 2 years of experience in NICU, pediatric critical care, pediatrics, and emergency department (ED) settings.
  • Required to have Level IV NICU experience.
  • Experience with High frequency jet ventilator and Oscillating ventilator.
  • Knowledge of pediatric cardiac anomalies is required.
  • Weekend shifts required: 6 weekend shifts per schedule (schedule published in 6-week blocks).
  • Orientation sessions occur bi-weekly.
  • First-time travelers and local candidates within 75 miles are eligible.

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – AHA/AAP only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA only

Licensure

  • Must have a current North Carolina RRT license (Respiratory Therapist license).
  • License processing time is approximately 2-4 weeks.

Required Documents & Compliance

  • Valid government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license).
  • Social Security Card (only if used for I9 verification).
  • Background checks within 90 days of start, including SSN trace, county, alias, nationwide, sex offender, international (if applicable), and education verification for respiratory care.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 90 days of start.
  • OFAC Sanctions List Search within 30 days of start.
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start (latex allergy acceptable).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with specific documentation if history of positive PPD).
  • Required immunizations/vaccinations with no exemptions accepted:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Measles (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Mumps (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Rubella (1 vaccine or positive titer)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Polio vaccine or signed attestation
    • Seasonal flu vaccine (required annually during flu season; no exemptions)
  • Negative 10-panel drug test including THC within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted).
  • Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months (at least one supervisor).
  • Employment application with 7 years of work history.
  • Annual skills checklist update required.
  • Unit-specific competency exam required.

Additional Requirements

  • Must set up a facility-specific guest account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems.
  • Completion of online orientation modules prior to start.
  • Completion of competency checklists within 3 weeks after start date.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Blue Card training provided onsite if not already held.
  • Pass/fail testing on EKG/medication knowledge administered at orientation (passing score 80%).

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each.
  • Weekend work required (6 weekend shifts per schedule).
  • No on-call requirement.

Notes

  • Local candidates within 75 miles considered with a slightly adjusted rate.
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
  • Orientation is conducted bi-weekly.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in North Carolina
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
  • Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current NRP certification
  • Current PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • High school diploma or college degree
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
