Description

Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Seattle, Washington
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (1900-0730)
Hours per week: 36


Job Details

  • Unit supported by a Virtual Nurse resource during assignment
  • Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend, with some flexibility needed
  • Floating: Travelers will be the first to float within their scope to meet facility needs
  • Block scheduling: Not accommodated
  • Locals accepted
  • Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per every 2-week contract
  • Return to office restrictions: No more than 6 days

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington State
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred but not required for MedSurg/Telemetry unit
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with minimum 80% in dosage calculations
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for certain units; check unit-specific requirements
  • Pass/fail orientation testing with 80% passing score required
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., TNCC for ER, NIH Stroke Certification for neuro units)

Background & Screening Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check required within 45 days of start, including nationwide and sex offender searches
  • Education verification required for Med Lab Techs (not applicable for RN)
  • State-specific WATCH search required for Washington
  • Drug screening within past 12 months required by agency (not required by facility)
  • Photo for badge: professional waist-up photo with clear lighting, simple background, no hats or face coverings

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year prior to start (not required by facility but required by agency)
  • Mask fit test within 12 months of start (3M 1860R, 1860S, or 1870+ masks accepted)
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
  • Negative TB test (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive TB history
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: titer or 2 vaccines required; declination allowed with signed forms
  • Hepatitis B: positive titer or completed vaccine series with re-titer; declination allowed with signed forms
  • Varicella: titer or 2 vaccines required; declination allowed with signed forms
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Sept 29 - Mar 31)
  • COVID vaccination or declination required for tracking purposes

Additional Requirements & Notes

  • No on-call duties required
  • Facility uses Epic electronic health record with hard stops
  • Scrub color: any solid color scrubs allowed; light blue scrubs provided on unit
  • Parking available onsite and offsite with shuttle service (details provided separately)
  • Candidates must complete facility-specific orientation modules prior to start
  • Candidates must sign facility-specific job description, license acknowledgment, equipment safety form, health history form, policies and procedures acknowledgment, PCIS agreement, personal data form, and code of conduct acknowledgment
  • WA multi-state licensed nurses must complete suicide prevention training and demographic attestation prior to starting assignment
  • Candidates must complete annual stroke education if assigned to neuro or ICU units
  • Facility requires license complaint clearance for all WA state license holders prior to start

References & Evaluations

  • Two references required (1 manager, 1 charge nurse or above)
  • Performance evaluations may be completed by facility managers after assignment completion

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical RNs seeking a night shift travel contract in a Level I trauma, Magnet, teaching hospital setting with strong support and clear credentialing requirements.
