Registered Nurse – Cath Lab (Travel/Contract)
Location: Kenner, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shift, 5 days a week, 8 hours per day (7:30 AM – 4:00 PM)
- Hours per week: 40
- Call Requirement: Minimum 10 days per month, including 2 weekends
- Unit: Diagnostic and interventional cardiac cath lab
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of cath lab nursing experience required
- Travel Experience: First-time travelers accepted (prior travel experience not required)
- Electronic Medical Record: Epic experience required
Job Expectations
- May be assigned to an Emergency Team during emergency events, requiring staying at the facility until the event passes or serving as part of a relief team
- Must be comfortable with emergency event assignments as directed by unit manager
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted; must be current or renewed prior to start
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted; must be current or renewed prior to start
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Cath Lab nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Current ACLS certification
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic medical record system
Required Licenses
- Active Registered Nurse license for Louisiana or Compact License required upon submission and effective immediately
- License must be current or renewal in process prior to start
Required Documents and Compliance
- Valid, current driver’s license or government-issued photo ID (color copy)
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
- Education verification or transcript/diploma if verification cannot be completed
- Sex offender search within 30 days of start, updated monthly
- NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (no instant screenings)
- Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health
- Fit mask testing (N95) within 1 year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed
- Immunizations/vaccinations or proof of immunity required for:
- TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months, updated annually
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella – positive IGG titer or completed vaccine series
- Hepatitis B – positive antibody titer, completed vaccine series, or booster after negative titer; declination allowed if signed within 1 year
- Varicella – positive IGG titer, completed vaccine series, or booster after negative titer
- Tdap (Tdap only for ED, Pediatrics, Mother/Baby, NICU) – valid for 10 years
- Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
- Employment application/resume required with 7 years employment history and explanation for gaps
- Annual skills checklist and competency exam (minimum 80%) specific to specialty
- Color photo for badge (passport-style, recent, plain background) within 24 hours of booking
Additional Notes
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required depending on unit
- Emergency preparedness checklist required for assignments during hurricane season (June 1 – Nov 30)
- Candidates seeking medical or religious exemptions for COVID-19 vaccination must complete facility-specific forms with appropriate signatures
This position is ideal for experienced cath lab RNs comfortable with emergency response duties and working in a fast-paced cardiac catheterization environment.
