ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Boone, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
• Weekend Requirement: 2 weekends per month
• Float Requirement: Must float between ICU, Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU), and Medical-Surgical units as needed
• Patient Ratio: ICU ratio typically 1:2, may vary when floating
• Patient Population: Primarily adult ICU patients; occasional pediatric patients may be assigned, so comfort with pediatric care is necessary
• Dress Code: All white or all navy scrubs
• Residency Restriction: Candidates residing within 40 miles of the facility are not eligible

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Carolina
• Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Certifications:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Certification
• Skills and Experience:

  • Proficiency with ventilators (vent experience)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
• Must be willing and able to float to other units as needed

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Background Check: 7-year criminal history check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually
• Drug Screening: 10-panel drug screen including marijuana, completed within 90 days prior to start and updated annually
• Health Requirements:

  • Physical exam updated annually confirming ability to meet job demands
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QuantiFERON Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year, updated annually
  • Immunizations or titers within 5 years for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, and Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30)
• Photo ID: Government-issued photo ID required for address verification and must be carried during work hours
• Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo meeting specific facility requirements (neutral background, shoulders up, clear and unaltered)
• References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
• Performance Evaluations: Required if previously worked with the agency for over 1 year
• Employment Application and Skills Checklist: Must be completed and updated annually
• Additional Facility-Specific Documents: Self-study orientation and accountability statements must be completed and re-completed after any contract break

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
