Registered Nurse – Med Surg

Unit & Patient Population

• Medical-Surgical unit with focus on post-surgical patients, including orthopedics and general surgery
• Neuro populations also cared for on the unit
• EPIC electronic health record experience is a bonus

Job Summary

• Provides independent nursing care in a similar clinical setting
• Manages routine and complex care, including long-range planning
• Delegates and assigns tasks to other care providers as needed
• Meets professional nursing competencies and standards of practice

Responsibilities

• Deliver nursing care using the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation
• Address psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families
• Administer medications and treatments per protocol, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness
• Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided
• Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, families, and caregivers

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
• Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Additional Information

• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically ranges from 5:1 to 6:1 depending on staffing
• Weekend work may be required based on scheduling needs
• Floating to other units is a possibility
• No on-call requirement
• Temp-to-perm opportunity may be available
