Description
Occupational Therapist - Contract Position
Location: Waimea, Hawaii
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide comprehensive occupational therapy services for inpatients and outpatients, focusing on evaluating and treating individuals with injuries, disabilities, or emotional challenges to improve functional capabilities. Deliver treatments related to Activities of Daily Living (ADL), range of motion (ROM), strength, and function as prescribed by physicians. Collaborate with nursing and interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated rehabilitative care and maintain accurate treatment records.
Work Schedule
- Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (Lunch 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM)
- Must be available to work Saturdays without exception
- Flexibility in work hours may occur
- Approximately 32 hours per week
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, evaluate, and re-evaluate patient function using objective measurements and outcome tools.
- Develop and implement individualized occupational therapy treatment plans under physician referral.
- Provide direct patient care including therapeutic activities to restore or maintain function in ADL, sensory integration, orthotics, psychosocial functioning, and motor skills.
- Act as a consultant for activity programs within the care setting.
- Educate patients, families, and staff on occupational therapy recommendations and pain management.
- Document all services and communicate effectively with physicians and interdisciplinary team members.
- Coordinate discharge planning and follow-up with community agencies.
- Participate in departmental policy development, quality assurance, and safety initiatives.
- Assist in planning and delivering staff education and in-service training.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, infection control, and regulatory standards.
- Participate in emergency preparedness activities and disaster drills.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Occupational Therapist license in Hawaii
- Minimum 2 years of Occupational Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Ability to work Saturdays without exception
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to foster teamwork and patient-centered care
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and competency maintenance

- Must comply with all facility, state, and federal regulations including The Joint Commission standards

- Holiday pay applies only for hours worked on recognized holidays (New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day)
