PICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Summary
Provide family-centered nursing care to infants, children, and adolescents in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) setting. Care includes pre-operative and immediate post-operative surgical patients, trauma patients, and cardiac procedural patients. The role requires coordination and independent nursing functions in collaboration with the healthcare team.
Work Schedule
- 12-hour shifts (Day: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Night: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- 36 hours per week (3 shifts)
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call duties
Float Requirement
Willingness to float between two hospital locations within the metro area as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Minnesota
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Pediatric CVICU experience
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check within 1 year prior to start, including SSN trace, 7-year county and nationwide criminal searches, national sex offender registry, and FACIS level 3
- Education verification with degree and field of study clearly listed (Nursing or related medical field)
- Minnesota DHS NetStudy Fingerprint clearance required before start (candidates must complete the DHS Net Study Questionnaire immediately after signing contract)
- Employment application required
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start, documenting ability to work without restrictions
- Fit testing for N95 mask (3M 1870+ or approved equivalent) within 12 months prior to start
- Immunizations and/or immunity documentation required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR vaccine or IgG titer)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or signed declination)
- Varicella (vaccine or IgG titer)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, Q Gold, or TSpot) within 1 year of start; if past positive, must have clear chest X-ray within 1 year and annual TB questionnaire
- Seasonal influenza vaccination or signed declination form (masking required if declined)
- Drug screening within 1 year prior to start (minimum 9-panel)
Certifications to Maintain
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Additional certifications such as ACLS, NRP, TNCC, or NIH Stroke Certification may be applicable depending on unit assignment.
Continuing Education
Must meet state CEU requirements for license renewal.

- Candidates must be prepared to comply with all Minnesota state-specific fingerprinting and background check regulations before starting the assignment.
- Floating between hospital locations is an essential job function.
