Registered Nurse – CVPICU (Cardiovascular Pediatric Intensive Care Unit)
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Description
- Provide nursing care in the Cardiovascular Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (CVPICU) with float duties to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) as needed.
- Care for neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and adults with cardiac disease.
- Manage intubated and ventilated patients.
- Administer and monitor inotropes and vasoactive medications.
- Care for patients with central lines, arterial lines, and peripheral IVs, focusing on CLABSI reduction.
- Possible exposure to Berlin Heart and Heartmate devices.
- Maintain a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio.
- Ability to transfer and admit patients within the same shift.
- Pediatric experience is required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in the Cardiovascular Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (CVPICU), with experience within the last year
- Current ACLS certification
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Pediatric nursing experience
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a pediatric or cardiac intensive care setting (based on specialty and clinical practice requirements).
- Experience with ventilated patients and vasoactive medication management.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID) must be carried during hours of service.
- Social Security Card or number required.
- Proof of E-Verify or attestation.
- Criminal background check (7-year history) updated within the last year; must include all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years.
- Facility will complete fingerprinting onsite on the first day.
- Education verification (transcript/diploma) required.
- Health screening form completed within 60 days prior to start.
- Senate Bill 38 Criminal Disclosure form completed prior to start.
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands, updated annually.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity via titer or vaccination
- Hepatitis B series or positive titer (declination not accepted)
- Varicella immunity via titer, vaccination, or history of chickenpox
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (declinations not accepted)
- Drug screening: 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 30 days to 12 months of start.
- References: Minimum of 2 professional clinical references.
- Employment application/resume including 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years in acute care and similar clinical area.
- Required competency exams and medication tests with 100% pass rate on pediatric medication test.
- Annual completion of core competency parts I, II, and III.
- HIPAA compliance acknowledgment.
Additional Information
- Facility is latex-free; candidates with latex allergy do not require special approval.
- Surgical masks provided and mandatory for patient-facing staff.
- Candidates must be able to work night shifts (7 PM to 7 AM).
- Float to PICU as needed during the contract.
- Candidates must be prepared for a fast-paced, high-acuity environment with a focus on cardiac pediatric critical care.
This position is ideal for experienced pediatric critical care nurses with cardiac ICU expertise seeking an 8-week travel assignment on night shifts.
