Nurse Navigator - Travel/Contract
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Schedule:
- Day shift, Monday to Friday
- Options: 5x8 hour shifts (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM) or 4x10 hour shifts
- No weekends or holidays
- 40 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing navigation services primarily in ambulatory clinic settings
- Preferred clinic specialty: Cardiology
- Key responsibilities include patient assessments, interpretation of laboratory results, cardiovascular care, medication administration, and office duties such as chart preparation, disability forms, telephone triage, and follow-up phone calls
- Preferred experience in cardiology and family care clinics
- Scrub color: Cranberry/Wine
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in District of Columbia must be in hand at time of application
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience within the last year
- Nurse Navigator experience
- Completion of at least one prior travel nursing assignment
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
Skills and Competencies
- Strong skills in patient assessments and cardiovascular care
- Ability to interpret laboratory results accurately
- Proficient in medication administration and office-related duties
- Experience with telephone triage and follow-up communication
Certifications and Exams
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 80% or higher within 3 years of start)
- Competency Exam (must score 80% or higher within 3 years of start)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required if working in cardiac or telemetry-related units (not specifically required for this role but may be relevant if assigned to cardiac specialty)
Health and Safety Requirements
- Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform job duties without accommodations and free from communicable disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon, or T-spot) within 1 year; if history of TB, additional documentation required
- Tdap vaccine within last 10 years preferred
- Documentation of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Hepatitis B
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (September through March)
- Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
Background and Compliance
- Criminal background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- Education verification for highest degree required by position
- Employment history verification covering at least 2 years within the past 7 years
- Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
- I-9 and E-Verify attestation required prior to start
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules before start date
Additional Information
- Valid driver’s license required if driving is an essential job function
- Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual required
- Photo for badge must meet facility specifications (clear, centered, no glare, solid background)
