Registered Nurse - PCU Float (Travel/Contract)

Location: Wichita Falls, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Position primarily supports Medical-Surgical units with floating duties.
  • Work schedule: 84 hours biweekly with a 72-hour guarantee.
  • Must agree to an alternating 36/48 hour schedule; facility may consider straight 48-hour shifts.
  • Night shift options: 3 or 4 shifts per week, each 12 hours (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM).
  • Start date preferred within 3-5 weeks.
  • Weekend work required, potentially most weekends during the contract. Block scheduling may be accommodated but set schedules are not guaranteed.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Texas
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with at least some experience within the last year
  • Two years or more of total travel nursing experience
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • PALS certification

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Background check within 1 year of start, including SS trace, county searches (7 years), nationwide, and sex offender registry.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start.
  • E-Verify or attestation required.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing.
  • Immunizations and health screenings (must be current or completed within 72 hours of contract signing):
    • TDAP vaccine within 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2-step PPD, Q Gold, or TSpot within 1 year; chest X-ray within 5 years if positive PPD)
    • Rubeola (Measles): 2 vaccines or positive titer (exempt if born before 1957)
    • Mumps: 2 vaccines or positive titer (exempt if born before 1957)
    • Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (exempt if born before 1957)
    • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series of 3, or declination
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines, positive titer, or history of chickenpox
    • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (10/1–5/31) or facility-specific medical/religious exemption submitted
    • COVID-19 vaccination documentation required
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year; must have plan to complete within facility timeframe (72 hours of contract signing).
  • Required to complete facility-specific documents prior to start (e.g., parking policy acknowledgment, confidentiality statement, code of conduct, orientation forms).
  • References: 2 references within 3 years of start.
  • Employment application or resume required.
  • Annual updates required for background checks, orientation safety manual acknowledgment, and skills checklist.

Additional Notes

  • Must be agreeable to floating between units.
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated but fixed schedules are not guaranteed.
  • Facility may consider straight 48-hour shifts as an alternative to alternating 36/48 hour schedule.
